The techniques I used to complete this still life were line, shape, value, , texture, and color. As my first project, there was a learning process for each of these elements. I already had a base with line, shape, and value, however I took my time to try to accent each of these features and work on them to improve my style. I wanted to use a base of cool colors to accent each of the elements in the still life, and create a contrast with the purple background and the teal surface for an element of texture. I drew inspiration from observing other students' pieces of art, and how they used color to accent features in their art. This made me realize which features I wanted to accent the most. My piece began with a grid to separate and section off the paper to help myself begin drawing rudimentary lines and shapes. I then began to add value to sections to help form the image. Finally, when the basic charcoal structure was complete with shape and value, I added color. If I could do this over, I would try my best to have more confidence in my abilities. This confidence would have steadied my hand and made completion easier.
